Spiced hot chocolate
With the cold weather here we are looking at some old favourites and spicing it up. Tonight we are attempting to make this little beauty. A wonderful take on the old school Hot Chocolate mama use to make.
- 1.5L (6 cups) milk
- 2 x 7cm cinnamon sticks, lightly crushed
- 150g good-quality dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 250ml (1 cup) thin cream
- Sugar, to taste
- Ground cinnamon, to dust
- Step 1
Place the milk and cinnamon in a large saucepan and bring to a simmer over low heat. Simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Discard the cinnamon sticks. Add the chocolate and stir until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth.
- Step 2
Use an electric beater to whisk the cream in a bowl until soft peaks form. Pour the hot chocolate among serving cups. Add sugar to taste. Place a dollop of cream on each hot chocolate and sprinkle with cinnamon.
